OnStar Members Andrew and Sue K. love a long drive — and the way Super Cruise helps along the way.
OnStar Member Andrew K. knows technology. He spent his Air Force career working with computers. “Desktops, mainframes, hardware, software,” he says. You name it, he’s worked with it.
Retired now, he still appreciates helpful technology when he encounters it. Especially the OnStar features in his Cadillac XT6.
“Probably the most helpful thing is Super Cruise,” Andrew says of the available hands-free driver assistance tech.
“We've driven other vehicles that have a similar product, and we find that the Super Cruise with OnStar is much easier, seamless to use and operate,” Andrew says.
He and his wife, Sue, a retired chief master sergeant, split their time between Abilene, Texas, and Goodyear, Arizona. They also regularly visit their daughter and her family in New Mexico. And there are friends in Oregon and elsewhere. “Friends we made in the military,” Sue says.
They drive a lot, but that’s nothing new.
“In the military, when we would PCS, which is permanent change of station, from one base to another, I’d like to get it over with,” Andrew says. “So we might drive 14, 15 hours to get from one place to another.”
Back then, that kind of time on the road wasn’t as much of a grind. They were younger. Everything is a little easier when you’re younger. Now, they feel the miles. Super Cruise has helped take that edge off. And, with more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads in North America, the feature is available on many of the roads Andrew and Sue travel.
“We find ourselves doing these long drives, eight to 16 hours, every couple of months or so,” Andrew says. “So Super Cruise is something that I really like. It's a great feature.”
Their connected vehicle
While Super Cruise makes a road trip a little better on the driver’s side, Andrew and Sue depend on the in-vehicle Wi-Fi® Hotspot when they’re in the passenger’s seat. “We listen to audio books,” he says, “and having the Wi-Fi helps immensely because there are areas where her phone will not pick up a signal but the Wi-Fi in the car does. We don’t get interruptions in streaming.” Sue says the connection is also helpful for scrolling social media, answering messages and keeping in touch with friends and family during the trip. “Wi-Fi just makes things easier,” she says.

“It's nice to be able to relax a little bit,” Sue says. “You can't relax completely, of course, just because you have to keep your hand near the wheel.”
Likewise, Andrew says he stays alert and ready to take the wheel when necessary. But, in their experience, Super Cruise has been an immeasurable help.
“The difference after eight hours of driving is noticeable,” Andrew says. “When we used to drive, I’d be wiped out after that. Now I’m fresh.
“I feel good. It’s nice to see technology stepping up and making long drives easier.”
“We load the car, and we get our directions from OnStar,” Andrew says. “Sue gets connected to Wi-Fi® so that she can stream an audio book. It’s so seamless now I couldn’t even tell you the steps I go through. It’s just that easy.”
